Friday Focus: Megan Skaggs

This week's Friday Focus features senior national team member Megan Skaggs of Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta. Skaggs was named to the national team in March just before competing at the 2015 City of Jesolo Trophy where she placed eighth all-around. She has competed at the U.S. elite national championships the past three years and in 2014 she placed ninth all-around. Watch Skaggs' routines from Jesolo here (Gold): Vault - Bars - Beam - Floor.

What is your favorite memory as a gymnast, so far?
I have two favorite memories as a gymnast. The first is getting over my long lasting fear of my series on beam (handspring handspring) in level 9. The second is competing at the Jesolo Trophy with team USA last month.

If you could be any other gymnast, who would you be?
I would definitely want to be Laurie Hernandez because I've always wondered what it would feel like to do her floor routine.

What is your most bizarre pet peeve?
When there is a hair on your arm but you can't find it. Oh my gosh. I can't stand it.

How would you describe your personality?
I am typically quiet, I would rather listen to a conversation than be in the center of it. But I love to joke around with my teammates in the gym.

If you made a life bucket list, what would be your number one activity to accomplish?
I actually have a bucket list. Skydiving is one thing at the top of my bucket list.

What is the most difficult thing you’ve had to overcome in gymnastics?
Fears and mental blocks were the most difficult for me to overcome, and I am still overcoming fear everyday. These are the most difficult, but they also give me a great sense of accomplishment once I get over them.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Fly. I've always wanted to be able to fly.

What is your biggest fear?
Maybe not my biggest fear, but snakes creep me out.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Pancakes and bacon...but I would be really fat.

What three items would you take with you on a deserted island?
A massage chair, radio, and an unlimited supply of piña coladas.

If you had a day off from practice, how would you spend your free time?
Doing anything with my family.

If you could witness any event past, present, or future, what would it be?
I would go back in time to see the creation of the world.

Are you an introvert or extrovert?
Definitely an introvert.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a veterinarian because I loved animals.

In ten years, where do you see yourself and what will you be doing?
Im still not sure where I will be in ten years.

What motivates you to work hard in and out of the gym?
