The No. 3 LSU Tigers made a meal out of the Iowa Hawkeyes in front of a season-opening record crowd of 5,665 fans,  defeating their opponent 197.125 to 193.300.  The Tigers had a 1-2-3 sweep on nearly event, with a gymnast from LSU capturing the each of the event titles. Senior Jessie Jordan took the all-around title with a 39.550, beam, and her first-ever floor title with a 9.925. Rheagan Courville added a 22nd vault title her career, winning the event with a 9.90 but she also scored a career high, and the event title, 9.975 on the uneven bars.

LSU began the night on vault with a 49.225. Freshmen Myia Hambrick and Erin Macadaeg earned spots in the lineup, contributing a 9.85 and 9.80, respectively. Courville capped the event with a huge and nearly stuck yurchenko layout full.

 

The Tigers earned their second-highest team total in program history on bars with an astounding 49.600.  Five of the six Tigers in the bar lineup, (excluding a freshman), tied or shattered their career highs during this meet: Jordan and Randii Wyrick tied their career highs with 9.925s, Shae Zamardi broke her record with a 9.90,  Jessica Savona earned a career high of a 9.875 and Courville anchored in a major way with a career best of 9.975.

 

 

On the balance beam, freshman Macadaeg shined, scoring a 9.90 in her first-ever beam routine as a Tiger. A line-up packed with experience andtalent, LSU persevered past a fall to score a 49.325 anchored by Jordan’s 9.925 routine.

To finish out the night, LSU rallied a masterful performance on floor to score a 48.975. Highlighting this rotation were junior Jessica Savona, who lead the Tigers off with a phenomenal 9.90 routine and Jordan who scored her third 9.925 of the night to clinch the all-around title.
