The 'Crown Jewel' of College Gymnastics Training Facilities
LSU gymnastics is currently building what they have referred to as the "Crown Jewel" of college gymnastics training facilities. They recently released a 3D walk through video of the new center. The school broke ground on this 30,000 square foot facility on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 but the idea was a 35 year dream from head coach D-D Breaux. Watch the 3D walk through video via LSU Gymnastics YouTube below.

Of the 30,000 square feet, 18,000 is actual gymnastics training area. The gym includes several vault, bars, and beams, a full size floor, and multiple pit areas. The facility also includes a locker room, team room and lounge, training room, cardio workout room, video room, and a rooftop grill and lounge area.

In a press release from LSU , Breaux said “This facility represents decades of commitment and hard work. It is a dedication to LSU Athletics. Our commitment is excellence to this great university that has done so much for so many people…. I have said all along that we want a safe training environment and a great place to train. It will be without a shadow of a doubt the finest gymnastics-training center in the country.”

Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva talked about Breaux’s commitment to excellence over her 37 years at LSU.  “D-D’s program has been excellent for years and years and years. We’re building this facility for our outstanding student-athletes that are going to take advantage of it. Our gymnastics program is outstanding in the classroom, in the community and in competition…D-D has been here for 37 years and has 650 wins. It was just so evident to me the passion she has for what she does and her competitive spirit. I really admire D-D for her passion and her competitive spirit. It hasn’t wavered one bit in 37 years.”

LSU is coming off it’s best season in program history when the Tigers placed third as a team as the 2014 NCAA Championships. The team also broke the LSU record for highest team score three different times during the season. They also ended the year as the only team in the nation to score a 49.0 or higher in every event in every meet during the 2014 season.

LSU has an impressive lineup of commits expected to attend over the next few years. Most recently, 2012 Olympic Alternate Sarah Finnegan signed with LSU to attend next fall (read more here). Also joining the team next year is former national team member and international elite Lexie Priessman and Mary Lou Retton’s daughter and 2014 Nastia Cup Champion McKenna Kelley.
