USA Gymnastics has named Mark Williams of the University of Oklahoma to serve as the head coach for the U.S. Men’s Team that will compete in the 2014 World Gymnastics Championships, Oct. 3-12, in Nanning, China. Williams was chosen by the USA Gymnastics Men’s Program Committee. In addition, Jake Dalton of Sparks, Nev./Team Hilton HHonors (University of Oklahoma) was chosen as team captain by his teammates.
 
Williams served as the head coach for the 2006 squad at the World Championships and was a coach at the 1994,1995, 2002, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013. Williams has also been a coach at the 1996, 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.
 
The other coaches who will be with the team in China are: Yin Alvarez of Miami/Universal Gymnastics; Kurt Golder of Ann Arbor, Mich./University of Michigan, Mike Naddour of Gilbert, Ariz./USA Youth Fitness Center, and Andriy Stephancheko of Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Olympic Training Center.
 
In addition to Dalton, the members of the U.S. Men’s Team are: Danell Leyva of Miami, Fla./Team Hilton HHonors (Universal Gymnastics); Sam Mikulak of Corona del Mar, Calif./Team Hilton HHonors (University of Michigan); Alex Naddour of Gilbert, Ariz./Team Hilton HHonors (USA Youth Fitness Center); John Orozco of Bronx, N.Y./Team Hilton HHonors (U.S. Olympic Training Center); Donnell Whittenburg of Baltimore, Md./Team Hilton HHonors (U.S. Olympic Training Center); and Paul Ruggeri III of Manlius, N.Y./Team Hilton HHonors (U.S. Olympic Training Center), replacement athlete.
