Summer Update- LSU

Gymnastike got a summer update with LSU's head coach D-D Breaux

What has LSU been up to this summer?
We have been doing a lot of recruiting this summer. Both Jay Clark and I have been out of the road to recruit. Our volunteer assistant coach, Ashleigh Clare-Kearney, has been choreographing our new floor routines for next season. I am very pleased and excited about the new routines and Ashley has done a great job with them once again.

Coming off your best performance at Nationals what are your goals for next season?
We always start with team unity and a commitment to our academics. LSU always has a goal of having a strong fitness level as the long season will require. We then begin building routines and adding difficulty. We also have a goal of keeping our season fun, which is important to us.

What are you most excited about with your new facility?
Our facility is going to be the crown and jewel in women’s gymnastics. We have had great donations and support from Tiger nation. This is such a great time to be an LSU Tiger. Our Athletic Director has really stepped up to show great support to our program long term.

Who do you see taking a leadership role next season?
The seniors will be a great step in front for the rest of the team. But the first followers are just as important, and Ashleigh Gnat and Sydney Ewing will be great for that.

What do you see your teams strengths being for next year?
We are hoping to have the same strengths as last year; good strong depth, healthy competition among our girls, and having fun throughout! We would love to win our first championship and we have been closer every year!

Gymnastike also had a chance to speak with senior LSU gymnast, Jessie Jordan

What are your goals and team goals for this season?
My personal goals are to do as good as I can for the team, especially as a senior. I also want to provide strong leadership for my team. As a team we want to build on last year and continue to grow and have a great season.

What are you looking forward to the most this season?
I’m looking forward to a whole new experience. This is my last year to compete with this amazing team and for LSU and I am ready to go out and compete for my life. I want to enjoy every moment and soak it all in this year.

What is unique about this LSU team?
This is a very diverse group of girls who come from extremely different backgrounds. We have all bonded well together including the coaches and have a lot of fun and laughs together. This team is also much smaller than last year. We have three less girls which will be an interesting dynamic to the team. We will need to count on different people to be in the lineup and step up for the team.

What do you think it will take for LSU to win their 1st championship?
I think it will take just a little more confidence and for us to continue to grow as a team. We have learned a lot of experience of what it will take to win. This senior class has been on the super six stage and has experienced the big competitions. We know the expectations and the focus needed to win and we will need to get better and better each meet. LSU will need to go out and compete for our life when it counts the most.

What else would you like us to know?
I think this is going to be a great and interesting season. Our schedule has us home-away-home-away which is going to be fun for us. We will get to be at home in front of our amazing fans and then a fun travel weekend. This is going to be an awesome season for LSU.

What are your thoughts on the new training facility?
I am very excited for the coaches, future gymnasts and contributors to our program. The new facility will provide a future for LSU to keep building a stronger program. This team and this program deserves to have a new facility and training center.
