The LSU Tigers broke ground on a brand new gymnastics training facility on Tuesday, July 22nd, on campus in Baton Rouge. The Tigers are coming off of their 3rd-place finish at NCAA Championships, the highest in school history, and spirits are high as they look forward to using the new space in future years. Head coach D-D Breaux was joined by the university president, athletic director, athletic foundation officials, and several past and current team members as they dug into the ceremonial dirt.

According to an article in The Advocate, the training facility will take approximately one year to build. It will house an 18,000 square-foot training gym (which is 10,000 feet larger than the current training area) including three vaulting stations, three sets of bars, five beams, and an oversized floor. There will also be a team locker room, lounge, squad room, cardio workout room, and video room. Breaux claims that this will be the finest training facility in the country, surpassing SEC rivals Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Arkansas. Not only will it increase safety and efficiency during team practices, but it will also offer a boon in recruiting. Upcoming senior Rheagan Courville, who took part in the groundbreaking ceremony, said “The training center will bring so much pride to the program. The tradition D-D has built here will continue to carry over, but it’s going to make an even bigger difference in every aspect of the program.”
