Yoder to Represent USA at Youth Olympic Games

Junior national team member Alec Yoder of Indianapolis, IN will represent USA Gymnastics at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China on August 16th-28th. Yoder will be the lone representative within artistic gymnastics, but according to the US Olympic Committee, the roster also includes two trampoline gymnasts and one rhythmic gymnast among its 94-member team.

The Youth Olympic Games are held in conjunction with the IOC and take the same format as the quadrennial Summer Olympic Games, with athletes participating in all 28 sports to be featured at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Yoder will compete against a field of 42 males from as many countries in individual all-around and event competitions. Qualification for MAG will take place on Sunday, August 17th, with all-around finals on August 19th and event finals on August 23rd and 24th.

Yoder has had an extremely successful year so far, including the 2014 Junior Pan Am Championships (1st in team, pommel horse, rings, & parallel bars; 2nd in all-around; 8th on high bar), 2014 Pac Rim Championships (1st in team & pommel horse; 2nd all-around; 3rd on rings; 4th (T) on high bar; 5th on parallel bars), and the 2014 JO Junior National Championships (Junior Elite division—1st in all-around, pommel horse, & high bar; 7th on rings; 8th (T) on floor). He will look to build on these successes as he competes for Team USA in Nanjing.
