Aliya Mustafina
is on track to recover from injury and compete at World Championships. Mustafina competed at this year's European Championships but did not compete on floor due to her ankle injury. She posted photos on Instagram after having surgery on her ankle.

Russian head coach Andrei Rodionenko spoke with news agency ITAR-TASS about the status of the top Russian gymnasts.  The Russian Worlds Team will be decided based on the results of the Russian Cup (August 25-31). However, Mustafina will miss the Russian Cup because she will not have been full healed from her surgery. Rodionenko stated that Mustafina is the only gymnast who can safely miss the Russian Cup and still make the Worlds team.

Rodionenko has high hopes for Viktoria Komova in her return to the National team as well as making the 2014 World Championships team. Komova missed last year’s Worlds due to injury but is healthy and steadily improving since last year. Komova made her 2014 debut at the Russian Championships but did not make the European Championships team. Rodionenko said that her injury was complex and had a long recovery period. However, he believes her experience and level, especially on bars, give her a good shot at the Worlds team.

Ksenia Afanasyeva and Emin Garibov will miss the rest of the season due to injuries. Afanasyeva is coming back from ankle surgery and Garibov had operations on both shoulders.
