American Classic- Junior Elites - Part 2
 
The 2014 American Classic will feature thirty junior elite gymnasts. The American Classic will be held at the ranch in Huntsville, Texas on July 5th. The majority of the athletes competing in the American Classic are veterans of the ranch, through the developmental camps or National team camp, and they are very familiar with the equipment and environment. The American Classic will serve as one of two qualifiers for the P&G Gymnastics Championships.

Junior elite gymnast Sydney Johnson-Scharpf is coached by her mom, Brandy Johnson at Brandy Johnson’s Global Gymnastics. 13 year old Sydney qualified for junior elite last June at US Training Center. She qualified to the 2013 P&G Championships after finishing 18th in the all-around and 8th on beam and floor at the Secret Classic in Chicago. Sydney placed 27th in the all-around and 9th on floor at the P&G Championships last year.

Junior elite gymnast Elena Arenas is being coached by her mom, Kim Arnold Arenas and also by her dad Pete Arenas. Elena trains at Georgia Elite Gymnastics. In 2013 Elena finished 7th in the all-around, 2nd on bars and 6th on beam at the US Challenge. Elena is a new junior elite who is only 12 years old. Elena scored highest at May verification camp. She will bring clean gymnastics and confidence to the America Classic.

Another junior elite gymnast competing at this year’s American Classic is Gabrielle Perea. Gabby has made a quick rise to the elite level. She is only 12 years old but is already competing big skills and looks to have a bright future. Look for some big start values from her if she can hit her big skills and connections. Perea finished 7th on beam at the 2013 Secret US Classic junior division which was only her second elite competition.
 
Junior elite gymnast, Alyona Shchennikova is being coached by both of her parents, Alex and Katia Shchennikov. Alyona trains at TIGAR gymnastics located in Colorado. Alyona is 13 years old and is new to the junior elite team. Last year Alyona won the 2013 US Challenge and placed 3rd on vault, 1st on bars and floor. Alyona tied Elena Arenas for the highest scored at May verification camp. Alyona is a very fearless and confident competitor. Alyona is hoping to join her sister Polina Shchennikova on the Junior National Team.

Adeline Kenlin is a second year junior elite who trains at the Gym Nest in Iowa. Adeline qualified for the Junior Elite Developmental Team at the 2013 June Elite Development Camp. Kenlin won the 2013 HOPEs Challenge with a huge 51.250 optional all-around score, beating her competitors by over two points. She also won the compulsory competition with a 34.650. Kenlin nearly swept the meet, winning every title expect for vault. Her beam routine was a crowd pleaser, where she competed an elite level routine valued at a 6.00. She scored a 14.60 to win the event by over a point.
