No. 3 Oklahoma opens the 2014 season against No. 8 Georgia on Friday, Jan. 10 at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma and Gymnastike will be on-site for coverage of this highly anticipated matchup. This weekend’s competition marks the 26th all-time meeting between Georgia and Oklahoma, with the GymDogs leading the series 18-7.

Last time we saw these two teams in action was the 2013 Super Six final with Oklahoma finishing runner-up and Georgia placing sixth. 2013 was the first Super Six appearance for the GymDogs since 2009.




#8 GEORGIA
The GymDogs have one of the most difficult schedules in the country facing ten teams ranked in the preseason top-25. Georgia has won four of its last five season openers, but this is the Gym Dogs' highest ranked opponent in a season opener since it fell to No. 3 Utah to begin the 2008 season. It is important to note that Georgia went on to win their fourth consecutive NCAA Championship that year under coach Suzanne Yoculan.

Georgia’s squad includes an exciting 2014 freshman class featuring Ashlyn Broussard, Morgan Reynolds, Lauren Johnson, and Beth Roberts. The GymDogs return 11 athletes from the 2013 NCAA Super Six team including All-Americans, Sarah Persinger,Brandie Jay, Lindsey Cheek, Brittany Rogers, Chelsea Davis and Kaylan Earls.

#3 OKLAHOMA
The third ranked Sooners enter the 2014 season with highest preseason ranking in program history, surpassing the previous best of No. 4 achieved in 2011, 2012 and 2013. This season’s poll is the fourth straight year that the Sooners have been ranked in the top five to open the season and the ninth consecutive season the Sooners began the season ranked in the top 10.

The Sooners return 12 members from last season’s NCAA runner-up team and 21 of 24 routines.The roster includes All-Americans, Erica Brewer and a stellar freshman class with Chayse Capps, Reagan Hemry, Charity Jones, Kara Lovan and McKenzie Wofford .
