McKayla Maroney on the set of Bones

World and Olympic Champion McKayla Maroney told International Gymnast that a recent injury allowed her to land a role as a gymnast on a recent episode of FOX's hit TV show Bones.

Maroney has been suffering from an avulsion fracture to her right patella. The injury forced her to take time off of training, freeing up time for other opportunities like the Bones episode which aired December 6th.

An avulsion fracture is a bone fracture which occurs when a fragment of bone tears away from the main mass of bone as a result of physical trauma. Maroney sported a knee tape job throughout the 2013 World Championships in Antwerp. She showed no sign of injury, however, winning her second straight World Vault title and placing 6th all around during World Championship qualifications.

According to IG, Maroney resumed training last week at AOGC and is on track for a successful 2014 season. Maroney's big goal for 2014 is to represent Team USA in the 2014 World All Around Finals.

The Bones episode also included former NCAA stars Vanessa Zamarripa and Kristina Baskett as stunt performers. Watch as Baskett takes viewers behind the scenes:
