Simone Biles
had an incredible performance during qualifications winning the all-around. While there are no medals given for qualification performances, Biles won this round of the competition making all five finals. Biles will also have the double layout half out named after her since she successfully completed the skill during her floor routine.  The USA went 1-2 with Kyla Ross finishing second in the the all-around behind Biles. Yao Jinnan of China finished third with a score of 57.965.

McKayla Maroney had a  great competition until she fell on the balance beam while performing a side aerial. Maroney tied with Kyla Ross with her floor score but Kyla's execution score will knock Maroney out of the floor finals. Only two athletes per country can compete in each final. However, Maroney is still the very HEAVY favorite for the gold on vault.

Larisa Iordache of Romania hit a gorgeous beam routine and will be one of the favorites for gold in balance beam final.   Additionally, Iordache hit a strong floor set that included a tucked double double.

It was a very rough day for Aliya Mustafina of Russia who suffered falls on beam and floor exercise. Mustafina sat down her arabian double front on floor and her Mustafina vault. Olympic Champion on the uneven bars, Mustafina  hit a beautiful set to earn a 14.900, and a spot in the final.
