Uchimura's streak continues with 2013 World All Around Title!
Uchimura's streak continues!
It was an exciting night in Antwerp as King Uchimura won his fourth straight world all around title. Uchimura was flawless in the final winning gold by almost two points. Japan went 1-2 in the all around with Uchimura's teammate Ryohei Kato taking silver with a score of 90.032. Fabian Hambuechen of Germany thrilled the crowd with his acrobatics on high bar and earned a huge score of 15.933. Hambuechen capped off his night with a fantastic floor routine that earned him a 15.133 and the bronze medal.
Surprisingly, the high bar took down quite a few of the top athletes tonight including Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine, Lin Chaopan of China and Sam MIkulak of the USA. Mikulak seemed destined for a medal with solid performances on the first five events. Mikulak has been flawless in Antwerp and was finishing on the high bar, one of his best events. Mikulak is an event finalist on high bar. Unfortunately, Mikulak made an uncharacteristic mistake, losing his rhythm and his score of 13.766 knocked him down to sixth place. Plenty for Mikulak to be proud of in Antwerp and expect to see an exciting routine in the high bar final.
