USA Women's World Selection Camp Begins Today

The 2013 USA women's World Championships Selection Camp begins today at the Karolyi Ranch in Texas. This camp will determine the athletes who will represent Team USA at the 2013 World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, held September 30-October 6.

Being the year following the Olympics, this is an individual World Championships with only four athletes making up each women's team. There will be no team competition; only all around and event titles will be awarded. A total of three athletes from each country may compete on each event in Antwerp, so the team will be made up of both all arounders and event specialists.

Front runners for the team include 2013 National All Around Champion Simone Biles, and 2012 Olympic Gold Medalists Kyla Ross and McKayla Maroney. Assuming these three athletes earn their place on the team, Martha Karolyi and the Selection Committee will be looking for a bars and beam specialist as the fourth team member.

The camp will run from September 12-18 and the girls will compete Friday and Saturday. The final team will be announced at the conclusion of the training camp, just before the group heads to Worlds.
