World Champion and NCAA All Armerican Hollie Vise announced today that she will be taking a collegiate coaching position at Arizona State University.
Below is the press release from ASU Gymnastics.
TEMPE, Ariz.—Arizona State gymnastics head coach John Spini announced the addition of two-time World Champion and former Oklahoma gymnast Hollie Vise to the Gym Devil coaching staff. Vise will be filling the role of assistant coach for Kari Ward, as she takes a yearlong maternity break for her third child.
With Kari taking a year’s leave of absence, we had the opportunity to bring Hollie on to our staff,” said Spini. “She is a World Champion, she coaches in the Valley and her excellent record as a collegiate athlete and choreographer makes her a perfect fit for the program.”
In 2003, Vise helped Team USA to a World Championship over Romania and also earned an individual gold medal for her bar routine. The six-time US National Team member later competed collegiately and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. As an elite gymnast, Vise trained at the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy in Plano, Texas, along side Carly Patterson and Nastia Liukin.
“I’m really excited because I’ve always wanted to move into coaching college gymnastics,” said Vise. “To have this opportunity to coach alongside Coach Spini, Coach Ward and Coach Ethier, it’s really exciting and I’m really thankful for the opportunity. I think we’re going to make a great team and we all have different strengths that we bring to the table.”
Vise is also known for her passion for choreography and will oversee the events of beam and floor. Prior to coaching at ASU, Vise was a traveling coach and called around the country to choreograph routines.
“I think ASU has a great history in gymnastics, they’ve placed second and NCAA Championships four times, and as a coaching staff we want to bring the team to that same level,” said Vise. “We have a great facility, we have a lot to offer academically and the campus is beautiful. I don’t think there is a better place to be.”
For Spini, Vise brings every aspect for which he was searching in an assistant coach.
“Hollie has that great dimension of communication with the athletes,” said Spini. “She has a good feel for the technical base of what she needs to do to bring us forward with her experience level. I really think Hollie has a future here at Arizona State University.”
