LSU and UCLA advance in Columbus Regional


The LSU Tigers and UCLA Bruins took the #1 and #2 spots at the Columbus Regional. D-D Breaux and her LSU Tigers were victorious in Columbus scoring a 197.275 that qualifies them to NCAA Championships along with Valerie Kondos-Fields and her UCLA Bruins. This is the 12th regional title for LSU and tigers had a gymnast win or tie for title on every event!  The Tigers put up big scores on vault (49.450) and floor (49.50) in the last two rotations to secure their bid to nationals scoring a total of 197.275.

The Bruins began competition on vault where they totaled a 49.225 highlighted by Olivia Courtney's 9.925 for her huge Yurchenko full that she stuck cold. Bruins were in the lead after the first rotation but their 49.05 on bars was not enough to hold of LSU and put the Bruins in second with Arizona close behind. 

Bruins needed a strong beam rotation to hold off Arizona for that all important second place. An unexpected fall by Vanessa Zamarripa put huge pressure on freshman Danusia Francis. Francis handled the pressure and her 9.85 gave UCLA a 49.25 keeping the Bruins ahead of Arizona. 

The Bruins needed to average above 9.85 (48.55) on floor to hold off Arizona for second place. UCLA came through putting up a 49.425 to place them in second right behind LSU and  advancing the  NCAA Championships that is hosted by UCLA.

Arizona came in third with a 196.100, Ohio State fourth with a 196.05, North Carolina State fifth with a 195.275, and Central Michigan in sixth with a 194.925.

Courville of LSU and Courtney of UCLA tied for the vault title with 9.925. 
The bar title went to Sarie Morrison of LSU with a 9.90.
The beam title was shared by Sarah Miller of Ohio State and Jessie Jordan of LSU both scoring 9.95.
The floor title was won by none other than Llomincia Hall of LSU with a 9.95. 
Jessie Jordan of LSU and Olivia Courtney of UCLA tied for the all around title with a total of 39.450.
