PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Junior Reema Zakharia (Miami, Fla./Coral Gables Senior High) of the No. 1-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team was named Big Ten Co-Event Specialist of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon (Jan. 21). It is the first weekly honor of her career. She shares the award with Sarah Miller (Ohio State).

She receives the laurel after tying for second on the floor exercise with a career-high 9.925 score in Michigan's win over Illinois on Saturday (Jan. 19). Her previous career high was 9.900, which was set at the 2011 NCAA Regional Championships in Ann Arbor. Zakharia primarily competes on floor exercise for the Wolverines, but she has also competed on vault and balance beam throughout her collegiate career.

Michigan takes its No. 1 ranking on the road this weekend, facing No. 12 Minnesota and Iowa State in a tri-meet on Saturday (Jan. 26) in Minneapolis, Minn. The meet will begin at 6 p.m. CST
