Mary Lee Tracy shows The Pak Salto: 3 Part Demonstration and Evaluation

Mary Lee Tracy is without a doubt one of the greatest US coaches...EVER. She's coached numerous World Championships teams, the 1996 Olympic team and she has on multiple occasions been crowned USA Gymnastics "Women's Coach of the Year" and in 2008, she was inducted into the USAG Hall of Fame.  She's legendary.

Gymnastike was lucky enough to catch up with her at Cincinnati Gymnastics.  We get some amazing demonstration/coaching videos from her, and we placed these videos in our Gymnastike Gold archive, and they are fantastic.  In this combination of videos, we have Mary Lee Tracy showing the Pak Salto.

The Pak Salto is one of the more prevalent skills for level 10 and Elite gymnasts. The move starts with the gymnast facing the low bar, swinging forwards towards the low bar and performing a straight backward salto to catch the low bar.

Here we have the skill broken down and demonstrated in three parts:

3 Action Stages of the Salto pt. 1
The first drill is for the reverse tap swing and focuses on keeping the hips open and pressing down to the floor.

3 Action Stages of the Salto pt. 2
Mary Lee Tracy demonstrates how the "tap" changes depending on body type.

3 Action Stages of the Salto pt. 3
Mary Lee explains how to kill the swing to get the correct timing for the tap. This is key to perform the skill from a handstand.
