Maroney Returns to Kellogg's tour, with Screws in her Leg and on Crutches
ESPN is reporting that Olympic gold and silver medalist, McKayla Maroney, will be in a boot for the next four to five weeks, and will be in a stabilizer for a few weeks thereafter, to treat her broken left tibia. In mid-September, Maroney had surgery to insert two screws "the size of [her] nose" in her tibia after she broke the bone upon landing a bar dismount on the second night of the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions. She reportedly is on crutches. Approximately two weeks later, Maroney had a second surgery, to repair her fractured right toe, which she re-injured just prior to the London Olympics. Maroney vaulted on her broken toe during the Olympics. Soon after the Olympics, she also revealed that she had a fractured fibula.
After taking some time off from the tour for her surgeries, Maroney tweeted that she returned to the tour on October 10, though she reportedly is appearing only for the end-of-show introductions. She also has been tweeting about enjoying signing autographs.

Maroney has maintained a positive attitude despite her injuries, reportedly joking with ESPN that one perk of being injured is that "Everyone has to carry my bags."
