14 qualify for 2012 Visa Championships at Men's Qualifier

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., May 5, 2012 – Fourteen men qualified for the 2012 Visa Championships in St. Louis based on their performances at the 2012 U.S. Men's Qualifier, May 5, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Men's Qualifier was the last opportunity for the country's male gymnasts to qualify for the 2012 Visa Championships, USA Gymnastics national championships, in St. Louis, June 7-10.

The 14 men who qualified for the Visa Championships at the Qualifier are listed in rank order, according to the Men's 20-point system used to determine the qualifiers:

Because the event is a qualifier, no awards were presented. However, John Orozco of the Bronx, N.Y./Team Hilton HHonors (U.S. Olympic Training Center), posted the day's highest all-around score at 91.750, followed by Dixon and Martin. The top scorers on each event were: Buscaglia and Dixon, floor exercise; Hernandez and Orozco, pommel horse; Scott Rosenthal of Clearfield, Pa./Pennsylvania State University Gymnastics, still rings; Buscaglia, vault; Orozco, parallel bars; and Orozco and Dixon, horizontal bar.

The U.S. champions for men's and women's artistic gymnastics are determined at the Visa Championships. The Visa Championships will also determine which gymnasts advance to the U.S. Olympic Trials – Gymnastics, June 28-July 1, in San Jose, Calif.
