Pac Rims - Women's Event Finals Qualifiers

Below are the women's qualifiers for event finals at Pac Rims, with scores and start values.  Event finals take place on Sunday, March 18, 2012.  Although the team and all-around competition was one meet, juniors and seniors will compete in separate event finals.  Juniors compete at 12pm Pacific, and seniors at 6pm Pacific.

The top two finishers per country advance to event finals.  This means that, for example, senior 2012 Pac Rims all-around champion, Jordyn Wieber, who had the third highest bars score with a 15.0 (6.3 SV), does not qualify for event finals on bars.

Of note, the highest start values in Friday’s team and all-around competition were on beam – 6.6 from both senior, Shang Chunsong, of China, and 2012 junior Pac Rims all-around champion, Katelyn Ohashi, of the United States.  Ohashi also posted the meet’s highest score, a 15.85, on beam.

Each of the six Americans competing at Pac Rims qualified to at least one event final, with most qualifying to two or three.  First-year senior, Kyla Ross, and Ohashi, a junior, each qualified for bars, beam, and floor.  Junior Lexie Priessman qualified for vault, bars, and beam.   Wieber, and junior, Amelia Hundley, both qualified for two – Wieber on beam and floor and Hundley on vault and floor.  Senior, Gabby Douglas, qualified for bars.

A note about vault:  Team USA qualified two senior and two junior gymnasts to each event final, except the senior vault finals, where no American qualified, despite solid scores and two completed Amanars.  This is because no senior performed two vaults, as required for event finals eligibility.  Among seniors who traditionally have performed two vaults are 2011 world vault champion and 2-time national vault champion, Mykayla Maroney, and 2010 world vault champion and 5-time national vault champion, Alicia Sacramone, neither of whom is competing at Pac Rims.
